The Chamwell Centre offers a range of therapy services, dedicated to the needs of disabled children and young adults in Gloucestershire. Our mission isto transform the lives of these young people with an unrivalled range of services to help improve their well-being, physical fitness, and social interaction. We have an opportunity for a swimming teacher to join our swimming team to provide swimming lessons to children with additional needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to really make a real difference by helping children gain confidence in the water and to teach them new skills which they can use when swimming with family and friends. This is a really exciting time to join us to help plan, promote and deliver programmes in the centre’s hydrotherapy pool.

About you

It is essential that you hold a STA Level 2 Swimming Teacher Qualification, plus a valid safety qualification such as: National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC) or National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or equivalent. It would be helpful if you hold STA Level 2Award: Aquatic Teaching - People with Disabilities. An understanding of the Halliwick Concept would be useful and if you have been trained in the use of hoists this would also be advantageous, however full training will be given.

You should be a good communicator, an excellent team player and be able to show perseverance and patience. You will be a positive role model, creating a positive and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage children with additional needs to participate in swimming.

Salary: £16.00 - £23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 per week.

The successful candidate will have experience in planning lessons and swim sessions in consultation with other staff members to ensure they reflect the Centre's mission of delivering services to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of our centre users.  

To recommend and assist with the development of marketing material to promote the Chamwell swimming classes. 

To deliver and evaluate the lessons programme to ensure it meets the needs of Centre users.   

Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used appropriately.

Provide explanations and demonstrate swimming techniques.

Be a positive role model, providing a fun environment which motivates and encourages children and adults to participate in swimming.

This role will require a successful outcome of an enhanced DBS check.
